how much do bridal dress designers make per year
By
Wedding Dresses vary hugely and so do their prices, so if you're a little bewildered and trying to figure out what you should be budgeting for your wedding dress then fear not. We know exactly how you feel. That's why we created the Wedding Dress Price Guide... To start off the conversation, the average wedding dress price is about €1500 - this is based on the idea that the majority of brides buy their wedding dress from a bridal boutique, usually from a specialist bridal design house (you will get to know all the names very quickly). But as you can see from reading through the real weddings we feature, that while a lot of brides choose their dress from a bridal boutique, lots of brides find their dresses in different places. So we put together this quick guide to the different options for finding wedding dresses, and the costs involved. €800 - €4,000 A quick peruse of the bridal magazines and wedding blogs will throw open a whole new world of wedding dress designers - these specialist bridal houses create wedding gowns of, with new collections released twice a year - Spring and Fall collections. The starting point for most brides is a good bridal boutique where you will find well-known names such as San Patrick, Pronovias, Cymbeline, Jesus Peiro, Sassi Holford, Ronald Joyce, Manuel Mota, La Sposa, David Fielden, Stewart Parvin, Novia D'Art. The average wedding dress price for a gown from one of these designers is about €2000 but you can find cheaper wedding dresses and more expensive ones, it all depends on a few things including: the quality of the fabric, the amount of fabric, embellishments, the type of fabric (lace is more expensive than tulle etc), the intricacy of the design... (you get the picture). Check out our wedding dress boutiques list for all the best bridal shops around Ireland. from €3000 -€10,000+ If you're thinking of one of the designer labels favoured by celebrities and society types, designers you read about such as Vera Wang, Jenny Packham, Marchesa, Oscar De La Renta, Reem Acra, Claire Pettibone, Amanda Wakeley, Badgeley Mischka, the list goes on... Then you are talking about really upping your budget. €3,000 would be a low starting price for a high-end designer wedding dress. Most of these designers are available at selected bridal boutiques around Ireland, but often brides choose to buy their dresses in London, or more cheaply in New York. Bridal Sales are great opportunity to buy a designer dress at a fraction of the cost, so keep an eye on the Events Calendar. €2,000+ Ireland has a wealth of wedding dress designers such as Bespoke Bridal, Sarah Foy, House of Delphine, Sharon Hoey, Edel Tuite and Claire O Connor , who all take commissions from brides to create a one-off, truly original wedding dress. These designers work with the bride to create their ultimate dream dress. While there is more transparency and flexibility in terms of budget when asking a designer to create a bespoke wedding dress - you can discuss what you want and how your budget can be made to fit - a bespoke wedding dress is always going to be more expensive than an existing design. Considering this option with less than £2000 in your budget may be slightly unrealistic. 40%-60% of original price One of the toughest things about picking the wedding dress is restricting yourself to within your budget. But if you've found a dream dress and it's out of your price range, fear not, a second-hand version could be within reach. Second-hand wedding dresses usually cost a fraction of the original price of the wedding gown. A wedding dress that was €2000 could be yours for €1000. Great if you love a designer dress but not the price tag. Start by looking online at sites such as Donedeal.ie, SellMyWeddingDress and Discount Designer. There are also bridal boutiques that now specialise in second-hand wedding dresses such as Memories Bridal in Dublin and Cork, and charity shops such as Oxfam. Barnardos Bridal receive donations of brand new wedding dresses from designers and boutiques which are sold at a discounted price from their original price tag. €150-600 for 3 days/week An emerging trend, especially for those with designer taste but a limited budget is to rent a dress for the wedding. A rented wedding dress might seem a little odd to an Irish bride, but considering the expense, the fact that you only wear it on one day, and that you may be putting it up for sale afterwards, does it not make sense to rent if you can? Try Covet in the Powerscourt Centre, Dublin, Secret Chic and the Ivory Closet. €250 - £800 If you're on a budget, then a trip to the high street to see the bridal ranges in shops such as Debenhams, Coast, Monsoon, Phase Eight, Whistles, House of Fraser, Littlewoods and Ghost is a must. These stores all stock bridal wear and occasion wear that would be perfect for a wedding dress. For less than £500 you can find the most fantastic wedding dresses just like some of our brides have demonstrated, Christobel in Topshop, Sarah in Phase Eight, Neasa in Coast from Debenhams who all look stunning at a fraction of the cost of a designer dress. €400 - €2000+ For those who want an one off wedding dress that is not only original and unique, but has history and its own story to tell, then considering a vintage dresses is the way to go. Vintage wedding dress prices vary hugely from €300-400 for a simple dress all the way up to €2000+ for a original 50's vintage wedding gown. Embellishment, the quality of the fabric, the uniqueness of the design, and size will determine the price of a vintage wedding dress. Size is a factor, as most vintage dresses are smaller so a size 10-14 dress is rare and therefore more expensive. Our favourite vintage bridal boutiques are Dirty Fabulous and Vintage Bride in Dublin, Archive 12 in Co. Antrim, Vintage Pearl in Galway but also check out this post on vintage wedding dresses for a full list of vintage bridal shops around Ireland and beyond.
